How large should your Dining Room chandelier be?

In order to establish what size chandelier to use in your dining room, measure the room's width and length in feet, add the two figures together.  The sum converted into inches is the approximate ideal size for your chandelier.  As an example, if I have a room that is 10 feet wide and 12 feet long, the ideal size of the chandelier is (10'+12') 22" in diameter. 

If this measurement (width + length, converted into inches) seem inappropriate due to the size of the table, size the chandelier 3/4 of the size of the table.

How high should the chandelier be above a dining room table?

The bottom of the dining room chandelier should hang 30-32" from the top of the dining room table.

How about the size of a chandelier in the foyer?

This calculation also applies to determine the size of a chandelier in a foyer.  Make sure that the bottom of chandelier does not hang more than 7’ from the floor.  The bottom of any fixture should hang at least 7 feet from the floor.

In a two-story foyer where there is a window, place the chandelier in the middle of the window so that it can be seen from outside.

If the foyer is extra large, add sconces.  Place them 60" from the floor and 6'-8' apart.
